The East/West collaboration that is Syriana takes as its muses a panoramic sweep of artists, from Lebanese diva Fairuz to US guitarist Ry Cooder. Blending atmospheres which draw on pop and classical music from the Middle East, film noir, surf guitars and Cold War iconography, Syriana conjures up an invented space at the cross-roads, where liberty, understanding and cultural respect prevail. The project features Greek/English guitarist Nick Page, Irish double bass player Bernard O’Neill, Egyptian percussionist Sherif Ibrahim, Palestinian singer and oud player Nizar Al‐Issa and from Syria, soprano Lubana Al Quntur, accordionist Mazin Abu Sayf, Qanun player Abdullah Chhadeh and the Pan Arab Strings of Damascus. Their debut album The Road To Damascus was released in 2010 on Real World.
